Part five starts with my friend the bull, who sits outside my hut every single day. I’d been worried he was lonely, but today he had company – lots of company, actually, as the beach was full of cows (including a mum and her baby). They do say the ones with the humps are the grumpy ones, so I backed away politely.
I answer a few of your questions too. I’m staying by the beach rather than travelling inland, so I haven’t taken malaria tablets for the last 15 years and don’t have any jabs – but please check what’s right for your trip. And the ice? Almost everywhere has safe ice and I’ve never had a problem.
Food-wise there’s a proper Cosmo and a gorgeous laksa in a thick coconut broth – with tofu, which I’d never have believed I’d enjoy. I haven’t done a laksa recipe yet, so that’s going on the list (probably with prawns). My holiday read is The Women by Kristin Hannah – I’ve cried more than once – and yes, the sunglasses everyone asks about are Ray-Bans.
Then the news that my flights home were in doubt. I’m safe, I’m well looked after, and I know so many people are in a far worse position. To keep you going, I took you behind the scenes at my favourite restaurant to meet the lovely cooks at the tandoor – Bobby, Johnny and the team who make my lovely food.
