I’m not going to tell you exactly where I’m staying on Crete – it’s tiny, just four little cottages in a row, and I’d like to be able to come back! But I can recommend an area, and as always I only recommend places I’ve been to myself and that suit my vibe.

Almyrida is on the north-west coast, about an hour from Chania airport. It’s a lovely, quiet seaside town with tavernas along the shore, a lovely beach, bars – everything you could want. Behind it there’s a beautiful drive up into the hills, through authentic Greek villages with really lovely tavernas tucked among the olive groves. Perfect for cooling off in the evening.

Also in that part of Crete is Rethymno – everything you’d expect from a Greek island: cobbled streets, lovely restaurants, a little bit sophisticated but still with that laid-back holiday feel.

At the end of the film I’ve dug out some of my photos from that trip, so you can see for yourself.
