The taverna you’ll have seen in my films is called Psarapoula, down on the south-east side of Crete, right by the water’s edge. Really lovely, friendly people, and the food is excellent.
I wanted fish, but they didn’t have the size I wanted the night before – so they got one in specially. A beautiful red snapper, which they offered to take off the bone for me, with a simple Greek salad to start. The Italian couple at the next table told me they eat there at least twice a week, so it’s not just me singing its praises!
It’s inspired me, too. I hadn’t realised snails are the national dish of Crete, which is very exciting as I’m a member of a snail club in London – so snails are on the menu for tonight. And when I get home, it’ll be Greek week, including a prawn saganaki: prawns and feta in a lovely tomatoey sauce.
And for those who asked – the bikini is Ted Baker, with detachable straps, from Next.
