Brazil’s national cocktail, made with cachaça. You can use vodka if you don’t want to buy a bottle. The only reason I don’t make it more often is crushing the ice – but trust me, it needs crushed ice.
Ingredients
Serves 2
- 1 lime, cut into 8 pieces
- 2 tbsp demerara or soft brown sugar
- 100ml cachaça (or vodka)
- About 10 ice cubes, crushed
Method
- Crush the ice by wrapping it in a tea towel and bashing it, then tip into a jug.
- Put the lime pieces and sugar in a jug and muddle hard to get all the juice out and dissolve the sugar into a strong syrup.
- Add the cachaça and stir.
- Fill two glasses with crushed ice and strain the cocktail over it.
Jules’s tip
It smells really strong of alcohol but doesn’t taste it when you drink it. So beware.
