My holiday reading is all about easy reads – nothing too challenging. Here’s what’s in my suitcase and on my list:

  • Jeffrey Archer – a fantastic storyteller. I’ve brought the last of the eight William Warwick books.
  • Val McDermid – gripping thrillers, often with a journalist or detectives at the centre, and usually a murder.
  • John Grisham – legal thrillers I simply can’t put down.
  • Kristin Hannah – I sobbed through The Nightingale and I’m working my way through the rest.
  • Louise Penny – I found her through the book swap at my local station. The Inspector Gamache novels are set around Montreal, and there are lots of them. I love getting to know characters over a long series – I hate saying goodbye at the end of a book.
  • Gillian McAllister – a barrister turned author of British-set legal page-turners.
  • Santa Montefiore – romances, perfect for the beach.

And no, I don’t have a Kindle, and I don’t want one. I’m not a Kindle girl – I like a book. When I go to India, I take a whole suitcase of them and leave them all there.
