I’ve got lots of useful films planned while I’m in Greece, but first, something unexpected: a budget flight I actually enjoyed!

When I’m hunting for cheap flights, the options usually leave me cold – I’d rather chew my own arm off than be made to feel like cattle. This time I flew Jet2 from Gatwick, and from booking to baggage the whole experience was lovely. There was a real person by the bag drop machines (which I hate) who walked me through it. They checked passports and boarding passes before we sat down at the gate, so there was none of that awful scrum when the flight was called. Why doesn’t everyone do that?

We were delayed by an hour because of crowded airspace over Greece – not their fault – and the cabin crew were brilliant. Carrie and her colleague were chatting to passengers and helping a lady with a very upset baby. Yes, the seats are small and there’s not much legroom, but the service more than made up for it. And one tiny genius touch: a little pull-down metal cup holder on the seat in front, so no more drinks sliding about on your tray.

If you’re shopping around for inexpensive travel from Gatwick, I’d absolutely recommend taking a look. It’s always down to the people – so thank you, Carrie!
