Okay people, I’ve made it – I’m on the train! Here’s my roomette: one chair for me, one for my bits, and the two seats turn into a bed at night. It’s cosy, but perfect for one, and the loo is very close by. A bit of peace and quiet in here, and plenty of people to chat to in the dining car.
I’m tired and a little overwhelmed, because I’ve surprised myself so many times today. A wonky plug for the hotel hairdryer that I’d normally have asked someone else to fix – I just got on with it. And when there was only a coffee pod machine and I was desperate for a cuppa, I worked out I could run it without a pod and make tea. Two cups so far!
A shout-out to my new friend Colleen, who I met in the lift up Willis Tower – she complimented my dress and we got chatting straight away. The kindness of strangers. And thank you all for your messages of encouragement. I might come across as bold, but I’m actually quite shy – I just cover it up by being loud!
No usable Wi-Fi on the train, so I’ll be out of contact for a couple of days. See you on the other side.
