A few of you have asked how I keep the weight off when I’m around food all day. Here’s what works for me – though please remember, everyone is different.
- I don’t believe in dieting. If you think of it as a diet, you’re setting yourself up to fail.
- I eat early. I practise intermittent fasting and I’m finished eating by 7pm – and once I’ve eaten, I don’t tend to want a drink either.
- Water, water, water. At least two litres a day.
- I still eat potatoes and bread – just not a lot of them.
- Handy snacks: hard-boiled eggs and cottage cheese. If you have a sweet tooth, try my frozen grapes, or fat-free Greek yoghurt (check it isn’t loaded with sugar) with a drizzle of honey.
- Feeling peckish? I brush my teeth or use mouthwash. Who wants to eat after that?
- Move more. I’m not a gym bunny, but I walk fast, get off the bus a couple of stops early, walk up escalators and run up the stairs.
- Remember your body changes. At 63, I simply don’t need as much as I used to.
- Concentrate when you eat. No TV, no book – think about what you’re eating, and your brain will register that you’re full far sooner.
