I was a bit nervous posting this one. A while back I got a sniffy comment after I said I could make better fondant potatoes than the contestants on MasterChef (everyone was burning the edges – my tip is to bevel the tops). But I know there are women my age out there who enjoy hearing the bits and bobs I want to share. So here goes.

  • Beach waves: I haven’t used a hairdryer in months, thanks to this amazing summer. I use GHD straighteners, starting at the top, clipping sections up and twisting one way, then the other, towards my face.
  • Make-up: I don’t wear much. A little mascara, no foundation (mostly because I don’t know how to put it on!) and, remembering Bobbi Brown’s advice, a pop of colour on the cheeks to bring you alive. I’ve used Jones Road for years – online, or at Liberty in London.
  • Tonight’s outfit: a super inexpensive Zara skirt, a vintage top I bought in Paris 25–30 years ago, and the organza earrings you’ve all been asking about, from a small brand I found by searching “organza earrings”.

That’s it – I just thought I’d share. Now back to the cooking!
