These two wonderful sisters got in touch with me completely out of the blue, convinced I’d appreciate wearing one of their feather headdresses — and how right they were! I now own two of these glorious creations and I absolutely love them. They arrive in the most extraordinary packaging too, which makes them the perfect gift for someone special (or for yourself — I won’t tell!).
Mrs Jones is the creation of two sisters based in Hampshire. They’ve been working side by side for around fifteen years on all sorts of projects — vintage furniture, interiors and home accessories — before turning their considerable talents to scarves and adornments.
Their love of India goes right back to childhood, when their grandmother ‘Cuckoo’ lived with the family and enthralled them with stories of her days in Ceylon, including riding elephants bareback! Their flair for fashion came from her too, and from their stylish mother, who made their clothes and gave each of them a sewing machine at fifteen. They haven’t stopped sewing since.
The scarves and trims are sourced in Delhi — beautifully soft Indian cashmere-mix scarves — and then embellished by hand back here in the UK, so no two pieces are ever quite the same. Alongside the scarves you’ll find their feathered crowns (the very headdresses I’ve fallen for), finished with sequin, velvet and sari trims in every colour imaginable, plus sari-trimmed cuffs and pretty brass and pearl earrings.
